Type Locality and Naming

Heifei Basin, south zone. Heishidu in Huoshan County, Anhui Province. Compiling Group for Anhui Regional Stratigraphic Scale, 1978, Regional Stratigraphic Scale of East China: Anhui Province, Beijing: Geological Publishing House. First appeared in a 1959 manuscript by Yang Zhijian.


Lithology and Thickness

Alternating beds of tuffaceous conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and shales. Sandy conglomerates in lower part; fining-up to sandstones with thick silty claystones in upper part.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Xi et al. (2019) imply the next older unit is the volcanics of the Baidaban Fm.

Upper contact

Xi et al. (2019) imply it is coeval with Xiaotian Fm, but other papers put it as underlying the Xiaotian Fm (used here).
